Michigan Lottery Player Loses Jackpot By One Number, Then Wins $800K The Next Day
Recently, a man from Michigan came dangerously near to winning large in his state's lottery's Fantasy 5 game. Of the five, he had landed four hits.
He was happy to get $100 and was thrilled about it. However, the 53-year-old Macomb County resident acknowledged that he was "bummed" not to win the large prize.
The next day, he gave the same game another shot. In the drawing on July 27, he matched every winning number, which were 02-05-17-21-30.
He received an email from the lottery following the drawing. It claimed he had won $1.
“I thought that was all I’d won, until another email came through telling me to log into my account to claim my prize,” the unnamed man recalled in a statement released last week.
"When I logged in and saw $795,905 pending, my first thought was that it was a scam. Now, that I am at the lottery office claiming my prize, it’s starting to hit me that this is real.”
He bought the ticket via the MichiganLottery.com website online.
The fortunate victor intends to invest his winnings.
My favorite is Fantasy 5
He explains that he enjoys playing the Fantasy 5 game for the Michigan lottery.
"I always buy Fantasy 5 tickets if the jackpot is over $250,000,” he said. “I usually buy my tickets in-store, but the night of the drawing I realized I’d forgotten to buy some, so I logged onto MichiganLottery.com and bought two.”
Games for Fantasy 5 cost $1. Players can win up to $500 when EZmatch is added for an extra $1. Double Play is added, offering players a second chance to win up to $110,000 in the nightly Double Play drawing, for an additional $1 per play.
Imagination Five participants choose five numbers from 1 to 39. At least $100,000 is awarded to those who match all five numbers.
At 7:29 p.m., fantasy five drawings take place seven days a week.
When a player is unable to visit a shop, the online alternative provides a convenient way for them to play, according to Michigan Lottery Commissioner Suzanna Shkreli.
Powerball Victory
Earlier this year, Michigan saw a significant victory. One Powerball ticket that was sold in Michigan on New Year's Day matched the red Powerball and the five drawn white balls.
A $842.4M jackpot was won by a trio from Michigan. In spite of their anonymity, the victors disclosed that they are a member of a "Breakfast Club."
The Food Castle in Grand Blanc, Michigan, about 60 miles north of Detroit, is where they obtained the ticket on January 1.
